WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPRESS?

Don’t Try to Impress Just Be Impressive!

What type of standards do you have for your life?  How do you like to present yourself?  What do you like to wear?  How do you do your hair?  Is your house/apartment/room clean?  What about your car?  What type of career do you want?  Are you happy with it?  Are you in shape?  How do you eat?  How are your kids?  How’s your social life?

There is a reason why I ask these questions.  Lately I look around and I see people bending over backwards to try and impress other people.  They want to have the appearance of having high standards.  We dress all nice when we go out so that people can look at us and be impressed with what they see.  When we have company come over we clean our house to the tee.  I love it when I go visit someone and you can see the vacuum cleaner lines in the carpet lol.  In general we put our best foot forward because we want to look good for others.  On the surface this appears to be a noble cause.  It’s always good to make sure we give people a pleasant experience when they encounter us.  I get that.  What about when nobody is around.

Don’t YOU deserve to have a clean house?  Why should YOU have to ride around in a nasty car?  Why wouldn’t you want to look your best ALL the time?  There is nothing as funny as seeing someone with a very nice profile picture but you know they look nothing like that in real life! We often go through this cycle of living life to please others.  You know at work when the boss comes around we are going to really be on point with our job.  We are going to have our work space clean and generally give our nest effort.  I used to work at several jobs where there was some big alarm that went off whenever a big boss was in the house.  My managers and supervisors would go around reminding everybody to straighten up and be their best.  As I look back on it I now think that’s just terrible management.  Why not be on point ALL the time simply because that’s where your personal standards are!

I believe that excellence is a character trait.  You are either excellent or you’re not.  Doing your best sometimes is not sometime excellence, its mediocrity in my opinion.  You can’t turn a switch on or off whenever you want! Being mediocre leads to an average and miserable life in my opinion.  Who wants that?  I certainly don’t!

I challenge every one of you to make excellence a habit.  You don’t need a reason to look good, be clean, or give your best.  Stop trying to impress people, just BE IMPRESSIVE! Develop a standard of excellence that you refuse to compromise for anyone or anything!  Give your best effort no matter what you do.  At work, go hard as if it’s the last job you’ll ever have.  DO these things and watch how your life changes for the better over time!

FIND YOUR MOTIVATION!!!

Finding Your Motivation

What is the idea behind motivation?  What does it mean to motivate?  The dictionary says motivate means to provide one with a motive.  We know that a motive is a reason.  What causes a person to act?  Simply put: what will it take to make us do the things that we know we need to do?

Fam please understand that fulfilling our dreams and goals is not an optional endeavor.  We must discover what’s been placed in our hearts and make it happen! No excuses are acceptable.  Remember if it can be done than you can do it!  The only question is; are we willing to put in the work and show the dedication to see your goals materialize.  This is where motivation comes in.  The average person doesn’t possess the will to go that extra mile.  You know the term, if it was easy everyone would do it?  Yeah that’s applicable here.  I believe everyone wants to fulfill their dreams but not everyone has that burning desire to do so.  Burning desire turns into action.  Every now and then however, laziness creeps in. When this happens we need motivation, a “motive”, a reason to do what we need to do.

We have to do some souls searching fam.  We must first take a stand and realize just who we are and what we want out of life.  Once we find out what we want we must spend time visualizing ourselves having the things and living the life that we desire.  THIS SHOULD MOTIVATE YOU.  The key is to connect with your desires however you need to on a daily basis so that you can stay motivated.  Some of us are visual and seeing images helps. For other listening to certain music helps.  Actually you can find motivation in anything.  Watching movies can motivate. Going to a sporting event can.  Going for a walk, seeing nature, etc.  You have to find what motivates you.  What is it that will cause you to act?

Suggestion

For me I like to study successful people.  There are lots of goals and dreams floating around in my head.  I like to find the people who have achieved the highest level of success in each field and soak in their stories.  For example if you want to be an attorney do some research, find the top lawyers and read everything you can about them.  Watch their trials etc.  If they can be successful so can YOU.

Once you find your motivation, you must get lots of it.  Every day.  Often you need it multiple times per day.  It’s sort of like taking your medicine.  Having this dose of motivation is crucial.

Now first you have to FIND it.  Get busy fam!

TIME TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

I wrote this a couple years ago for the old blog but I feel its appropriate to post here as we start the new year.  The goal is to encourage people to change.  Are you tired of trying over and over again and still getting nowhere?  Let’s follow these steps to change.

Time to Change Your Life

 Are you satisfied with your life? Do you want to change some things for the better? We all have areas of our lives that we want to improve (including myself). This is the time of year that most people set out goals, New Year’s resolutions, etc. with the hope of making their quality of life better. Have you ever set out to do something for yourself but didn’t accomplish your goal? How did it make you feel? Not so good I’m sure. You know many of us have set out to do things on January 1st and we have already slipped up, fallen off of the wagon, jumped out the boat and/or flat out quit altogether. DON’T GIVE UP!!! The great thing about life is that while you can’t change your past, you can always change your future. Let this be the year that things do CHANGE! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
Here are 4 simple steps to making positive change this year!!!!!1. Know where you are (be honest). We have to take a deep look in the mirror and analyze our situation that we want to change. For example if you want to lose weight you need to step on a scale to see what the damage already is lol. Many of us are scared to “step on the scale” so to speak because we don’t want to see where we are. It can be depressing sometimes, I admit but you must be honest with yourself and embrace the truth. Don’t go another year living in fantasyland, pretending that everything is ok and ignoring the issue. FACE THE GIANT HEAD ON!!!! If you have a clear, specific, idea on where you are you can successfully go to step 2.

2. Know where you want to be (set specific goals). This is where you look deep into your heart and find out exactly what you want. Don’t hold back. You have an imagination for a reason. Dream big. You may set goals that take more than a year(s). Some dreams may take a lifetime to fulfill. Write them down and believe that it is possible. I talk to people all the time that have beautiful dreams to make a better life for themselves but refuse to give them much thought because they believe that they are impossible to accomplish. Someone once told me that if you aim for nothing, you will get just that! Don’t aim for nothing but dream BIG. Set long term AND short term goals.

3. Know how you are going to get there (develop a plan and baby steps). Now that you have long and short term goals you can began to draw a plan or a map to get you from where you are in step 1 to where want to be in step 2. Your plan will consist of lots of small steps or “victories” so to speak. Let’s say you never graduated high school but you have a goal to be a CEO of a fortune 500 company. Small steps would include obtaining your high school diploma/G.E.D., get a college degree, obtain some relevant work experience, etc. Each of these steps may have a whole set of steps themselves. Write down every step and draw a map. Put it on a big poster board and make it look good. You have to keep your “vision” before your eyes… This leads to step 4.

4. Know what motivates you. Each of us gets excited by different things. Certain images, music, movies, people, and other things have the ability to make us smile and feel like we can do anything. Sometimes negative memories or people that hurt us motivate us because it makes us want to overcome despite what has happened. Whatever the case you must know your motivation and use it to your advantage. Music, images and people motivate me. I have certain “theme” songs to life that I listen to everyday. I love people’s success stories so I try to read autobiographies of successful people on a regular basis. Whatever your motivation is you must know it and get lots of it. I say this because life can get hard and some of our goals will be hard (they should be hard as we should constantly be challenging ourselves to go to the next level). When life gets hard we need extra “juice” to push us forward. This is our motivation. As you press towards your goals I want to leave you with this important concept. STAY MOTIVATED!!!!!
